Call to Worship                                         Psalm 111 (NKLV)

Praise to God for His Faithfulness and Justice

111 Praise[a] the Lord!

I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.

2 The works of the Lord are great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them.
3 His work is honorable and glorious, And His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; The Lord is gracious and full of compassion.
5 He has given food to those who fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant.
6 He has declared to His people the power of His works, In giving them the [b]heritage of the nations.

7 The works of His hands are verity[c] and justice; All His precepts are sure.
8 They stand fast forever and ever, And are done in truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever:
Holy and awesome is His name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments.

His praise endures forever.

God Bless America Land That I Love.

Philippians 3:17-21

Sermon Passage - Philippians 3:17-21  (ESV)

17 Brothers and sisters,[a] join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us.

18 For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. 19 Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things.

20 But our citizenship[b] is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21 He will transform the body of our humiliation[c] that it may be conformed to the body of his glory,[d] by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself.

Sermon Introduction

In Philippians – Saint Paul’s is writing to the Church of Philippi and the challenging the Philippians to critically look at who they are being influenced by in the walk with Jesus.

Who is following you

Today’s Sermon draws a parallel between the Church of Philippi then and who we are being influenced by today. Paul is also showing the Philippians how to be an example of a follower of Jesus Christ. As Christians we are an influence, what type of influence are we showing others?

[-] A clear call from Paul – Paul provides an example of Faith (vs 17)

          Follow my example

Paul’s life is oriented towards  Jesus Christ (God)

Our Citizenship is in Heaven – Paul looked to Jesus as his example

Knowing Christ was more important to Paul than any compliment or accolade

Saint Paul may have received about himself or what he may have   accomplished.

[-] Contrast – Enemies of the Faith (vs 18)

          Human Nature and the Flesh

          A me mindset

Their citizenship is measured by earthly standards

[-] How do we view ourselves

          We are looking at someone

          Someone is looking at me

          What is our example

O Come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.
